Miami prosecutor wins award

Assistant U.S. Attorney Richard Gregorie has been named the country’s most outstanding federal prosecutor by the National Association of Former U.S. Attorneys (We figure their membership rolls have spiked since George W. Bush has been in office), according to a story in the Miami Herald. Gregorie, who is prosecuting the Liberty City Seven, was the prosecutor who indicted Panamanian dictator Manuel Noriega. Miami-Dade PD honored

The Miami-Dade Public Defender’s office won the Clara Shortridge Foltz Award for its work on behalf of indigent clients, the Miami Herald reported.
The award is given annually by the National Legal Aid and Defender Association.

Martindale-Hubbell ratings announced

LexisNexis announced its Martindale-Hubbell Peer Review Ratings for 110 lawyers nationwide. According to a report on TradingMarkets.com, the LexisNexis designation means “that a lawyer has the highest ethical standards and professional ability and are used by buyers of legal services to justify their hiring decisions.”

H.T. Smith wins honor

The Anti-Defamation League will honor longtime civil rights advocate H.T. Smith (left) with its 2007 Jurisprudence Award at their upcoming Nov. 7 banquet. Smith, founding president of the Black Lawyers Association of Dade County, was also Dade’s first black assistant public defender and first black assistant county attorney, according to the story in the Broward Times.
